Practical Help & Support for Adults Returning Home from Hospital

Returning to full health after a spell in hospital can sometimes be a challenge, especially if you don’t have people around you to help.  The Hull Churches Home from Hospital Service was set up to give practical help and support to adults coming home from hospital.

The Service that you receive is free and confidential.

What Can We Do?  We can be:

  • An extra pair of hands when you, or a carer, are feeling tired.
  • A friend to talk to outside of the family.
  • A practical helper running errands.

Some of the tasks we often find ourselves doing include:

  • Help with shopping.
  • Washing feet and changing anti-embolism stockings.
  • Listening.

You can have confidence in us.

All of our volunteers are fully police checked and carefully selected and trained in a wide range of issues aimed at enabling them to provide high quality support. Training includes:

  • Befriending.
  • First Aid.
  • Health and Safety.
  • Confidentiality.

How We Will Arrange Our Visits:

One of our support workers will discuss with you the kind of support that you feel you may need.

Our volunteers will give you up to 6 weeks of free support at home. We can offer a further 2 weeks if it is needed following an additional assessment. We will only visit at your request and you can tell us that you don’t need our help at any time. Our Service Manager is available to talk about the support that you are receiving.

Our Hopes

Founded on the ethos to “love your neighbour as yourself”, we will strive to embody that principle, via two hopes:

Firstly, that by supporting some of Hull’s citizens, at a time of acute vulnerability, we play a part in their recovery of health, with all of the resultant improvement in quality of life that physical health brings.

Secondly, that by placing volunteers alongside client’s in their locality, we may play a part in the re-establishing of community networks, with all of the resultant improvements in quality of life that social health brings.
